Feeling blue about the way your face looks? Now you can enjoy the blues and look as fabulous as you want with the Obagi Blue Peel System! The Blue Peel System is part of the highly-esteemed line of Obagi skin care products that is created by skin expert and dermatologist Dr. Zein Obagi.

The Obagi Blue Peel system is designed to be used as a treatment for those who want to peel away old and damaged skin from the face.  The system allows patients to recover even more quickly. With increased rejuvenation and healing abilities, you can get on with your normal, everyday routine after a visit to the dermatologist for treatment.

The Obagi Blue Peel system has Trichloracetic Acid (TCA) as one of its main ingredients. TCA is slow acting and provides the doctors with more control on the peeling and healing process, as compared to glycolic acid. Since peeling is controlled, there is minimal damage and scarring to the skin. TCA works to slough off dead skin cells so that they are replaced by newer ones. The result is a quicker removal of damaged and aging skin (particularly the thin top layers). This will be replaced by tighter, “newer” skin that is clear, elastic and younger-looking.

Who can benefit from the Obagi Blue Peel?

The Obagi Blue Peel is for those who are concerned about reversing the visible signs of skin aging that is marked by fine lines, wrinkles, age spots and sun damage. It can be used to improve the appearance of the skin not just on the face but also other parts – the décolletage, the hands, arms, legs and back.  It is also for those whose skin has blemishes or has an overall poor quality. However, those who plan on becoming pregnant or who are already pregnant should ask about whether she can use the Blue Peel System at this time. Those who have sensitive skin should also seek the doctor’s advice.

How is Obagi Blue Peel applied?

The Blue Peel is usually done in your doctor’s clinic and the doctor will determine just how many layers or peels you need. The doctor will apply the peeling solution on the face. Peels may take from 1 to 4 coats, depending on the doctor’s assessment of your skin’s needs. Recovery time may also vary. For instance, if your skin has some dark spots, the peeling may require a recovery time of 5 to 7 days while intensive treatment of wrinkles may need 7 to 10 days of peeling. Less intensive problems may need just 3 to 4 days’ worth of peeling.

The procedure usually lasts from 20 to 30 minutes. Each coat may result in a burning feeling, where the skin will feel very hot as the blue peel is working its way to the deeper levels of the skin. To ease any discomfort, the doctor may use an electric fan for a cooling effect on your face. The skin will become blue as the peeling solution dries out.

Usually, there is no need for sedation, depending on your pain threshold. But if sedation is needed, you may need to arrange for someone to drive you home from the doctor’s clinic. After your visit to the doctor, you can expect your skin to begin peeling in 2 to 3 days. You may also notice a slight bluish tint on your face following the procedure. There may also be some swelling once the peeling starts.

Remember to get sun protection like the Healthy Skin Pro SPF 35 from the Obagi NuDerm line, especially if you plan to go outdoors. Also, avoid putting on any makeup during the healing time.
